An Ultrasound gel pad, also known as an ultrasound standoff gel pad or an ultrasound coupling pad, or simply a gel pad, is a medical device used in diagnostic medical sonography. Usually round or square, and made of soft pliable material to facilitate acoustic contact between an ultrasound transducer and skin surface. They are of varying size and shape Round or Square and typically 5 or 10mm thick.
Gel pads are used in conjunction with aqueous gel. The gel is placed both on the skin surface and between the transducer and gel pad. The gel pad better facilitates acoustic contact between the ultrasound transducer and skin surface rather than just using gel alone.
